Job Description

Our client, an International Market Research Provider specialising in the retail, luxury, fashion and hospitality industries, is looking for a Business Unit Manager.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

1/ Delivery of Commercial Impact

  • Provide clients with sound and commercially viable business advice so as to be a trusted adviser
  • Develop, enhance and maintain excellent and profitable client relationships at senior level with the world’s best-known luxury brands
  • Provide strategic guidance and thorough leadership on the design and delivery of client engagements for any of our three practices: Brand Experience and Retail Coaching & Training
  • Determine the most appropriate research approaches, methodologies, and tools to deliver projects in the most cost-effective manner
  • Grow the business by pursuing both worldwide and regional projects while maintaining existing accounts

2/ Capability Building

  • Attract, develop and retain suitable talent
  • Create a working environment that provides both developmental opportunities and the support required to succeed
  • Oversee performance management processes in and ensure the team’s goals are aligned to global strategy
  • Develop and maintain a sufficient pool of trained and certified freelance Store Performance Evaluators

3/ General Management

  • Own and manage annual budgets as well as rolling forecasts of activities and resources to meet agreed business objectives
  • Lead our commercial activities in the Japanese market with full ownership of P&L
  • Direct the operations in the Japanese market both local and global programs, ensuring flawless execution of all fieldwork
  • Drive Quality Assurance from the source and ensure that all team members own quality
  • Exercise care, custody and control of all company resources in line with corporate policies, procedures and practices.
  • Ensure the Business Unit works in harmonious cooperation with the other Business Units and corporate functions
  • Regularly represent the company at social and networking events


Desired Skills and Experience

Eligibility Criteria

  • University degree in business or marketing
  • MBA in Marketing or general MBA preferred
  • Approximately 6-10 years of experience at managerial level
  • Working exposure to premium and luxury products or services, preferably in a retail environment, hospitality environment or in business consultancy
  • Strong analytical skills and good understanding of how information is used for decision-making in a commercial context
  • Comfortable debriefing senior audiences and able to explain complex concepts in an easy-to-understand manner
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Fluency in Japanese would be an advantage
